What I need to know.

About Fundraising

What's the fundraising minimum?  

Minimum $100 fundraising is required per paddler.

No more CASH? 

Cash will no longer be collected by SUFC and any cash donations received must be entered by the participant using a valid credit card. If a cash sponsor wants to receive a tax receipt the participant must enter the sponsor's information for the pledge account.  Download SUFC Pledge Form here.

You can change your display name and your photo.  

Can I see my fundraising total?  

Fundraising totals will be shown on the paddler profiles.

About the Event

Can I rent/borrow a board for the event?  

No board, no problem! We have a limited number of FREE loaner boards available on a first come, first serve basis.  Send us an email before you register and we'll set you up. Note that boards will only be held for 24hrs allowing you time to register and once you are registered you are guaranteed a board and paddle on event day.

Can I paddle with a canoe or kayak? 

We love all our water brethren however this is a SUP-event, therefore SUP boards only please.

Is this a race?

No, this is a community SUP event geared to all ages and abilities where SUPers come together to raise money for a great cause, make new friends and help grow the sport of Stand Up Paddling.  

How long will the paddle take?

The average speed for a beginner SUPer is 4km/hr.  So depending upon your distance category, paddle skills, wind, conversation and general goofing around, the paddle can last anywhere from 1-4 hours.

What if I'm too slow?

Don’t worry.  We will try and maintain a pace that is reasonable for everyone, however paddlers who cannot finish or maintain the group pace will be picked up by one of our safety boats.  We also have spotters that will hang out with you if you're trailing behind but keen to keep going, within reason.

Do I NEED a P.F.D.?

By law it is required that “there must be one Canadian approved lifejacket or personal floatation device available on board and available for immediate use”.  Transport Canada Regulations

What should I bring with me on event day?
  • SUP board (unless you are borrowing one from us)
  • Paddle
  • PFD
  • Drinking water
  • Sun hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Change of clothes
  • Afternoon-at-the-Beach stuff (chairs, towels, frisbeees)
How/where do I get my Event Package?

Bring your Minimum Fundraising Certificate (issued when you reach $100 in pledges) to the designated pick-up location on the specified dates. Check specific event page for details and updates.

Do you need volunteers?  

Send us an email if you'd like to volunteer for SUFC in any or all of our locations - Ottawa, Petawawa and Kingston.  We are happy to have the help!

 

Do I get a Tax Receipt from CHEO?  

Sponsor a paddler: YES (Cash will no longer be collected by SUFC and any cash donations received must be entered by the participant using a valid credit card. If a cash sponsor wants to receive a tax receipt the onus is on the participant to collect and enter the sponsor's name and mailing address when they process their credit card payment.)

Donation to SUFC without any advertisement: YES

Corporate sponsors who are advertised: NO

Why do I see "Ignite Web Solutions" on my receipt?

Ignite Web Solution hosts and manages our website and all transactions are processed through them.  Without the kind help of Ignite Web Solutions all of this wonderful website would not be possible!

What emails will i receive from SUFC? 

We want to minimize junk and will keep it to a minimum.  You can expect to receive:

    • Registration Confirmation: when you register
    • Minimum Fundraising Certificate: when you have met the $100 fundraising minimum  
    • Transaction confirmations
    • Urgent Notifications
